THE PARTNERSHIP

The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership is the union of several key agencies in Manchester who are working together to tackle crime and disorder across the city.

The Crime and Disorder Act (1998) requires the local council and police to work together to address matters of crime and disorder. The Act outlines the position that by working with all of the agencies that are affected by, or deal with crime and disorder, we can produce better and more effective solutions to the problems we face.

This partnership, therefore, includes the city’s key agencies and is managed by an Executive Partnership Group (EPG) that oversees the work undertaken.
On a day-to-day basis the work of the partnership is carried out by the Crime and Disorder Team, Youth Offending Service (YOS), Manchester Multi-Agency Gang Strategy (MMAGS) and the Drugs and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT).

These teams address the separate aspects of the partnership work, and are responsible for ensuring that the objectives and aims outlined in the Crime and Disorder Strategy are met.

The CDRP is supported by a number of agencies across the city. They include:
Manchester City Council
Greater Manchester Police
National Health Service
National Probation Service, Manchester
HM Prison Manchester
Crown Prosecution Service
Greater Manchester Police Authority
Community Safety Network (CSN)
Greater Manchester Fire Sevice
Criminal Justice Board

THE CRIME AND DISORDER STRATEGY

In 2004 an audit into crime in Manchester was undertaken. This audit outlined crime and disorder problems across the city and thus identified areas that needed improvement. Culminating from this was a crime and disorder strategy that set out key targets and the problems that needed addressing.  The latest strategy 2008-2011 outlines each area of concern and action that will be taken in connection with this.

A new strategy is devised every three years, to keep apace with the changing issues facing the city’s organisations.
